Hi.

Welcome! I'm a new Pittsburgher and mom who is untrained in both life and cooking, but that just makes them both more exciting!

Homemade Low-Fat Ranch Dressing

xIMG_9827.jpg

We go though a lot of ranch dressing in our little family. I like vegetables and salads, but having a good ranch on hand may or may not have a majority stake that.  And with a veggie-and-ranch-loving (and daddy-loving) toddler running around, we go through enough of it to warrant giving this homemade version a try.  I love this recipe because it tastes like the rich, creamy dressing that you are looking for, but at the same time you know that it's healthier than most other options (especially the store-bought ones that have 10,000 ingredients, half of which you can't name).  Plus, it doesn't have that "low-fat ranch" taste that just ruins your whole day.

I got this recipe from Bobbi's Cozy Kitchen as part of the Secret Recipe Club swap, and I am so glad I found it on her site!  Someday, I hope I can just stop buying ranch from the grocery store and make it at home all the time.  The recipe is easy and the ingredients are in every grocery store, so hopefully soon I'll just take the plunge and have this around the house all the time!

Homemade Low-Fat Ranch Dressing

  • 1 cup low fat mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup Italian flat-leaf parsley leaves, minced ( a good handful)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh chives
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Dash hot sauce (Recommended Sriracha)
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1/2 cup low fat buttermilk

In a food processor or blender combine all of the ingredients and pulse until thoroughly blended. Adjust seasoning as needed. Pour into an airtight container and chill for 1 to 2 hours before using.

Thin with more buttermilk if needed.
